How to Talk to a Girl You Like released by New Line Publishing

With her blonde model looks and easy-going manner Alisa has made it her one-woman mission to demystify the dynamics at the crucible where man meets woman.

“We live at a time when it has become easier than ever to have a relationship. More of us spend time online than ever before. The faceless nature of online communication has helped break down many taboo barriers and the overt sexualisation of our internet age is spilling over into many offline areas of human activity. The result is that women are, mostly, more receptive to guys’ approach and guys do feel that they can talk to women, more openly and more easily than ever before. The question of course is ‘how’.

“Being open and receptive is fine but you still need, as a woman, to feel that the guy talking to you is not some caveman throwback incapable of stringing more than two words together. This is where the guidelines I have put together come into their own,” says the author.

When New Line Publishing, who bring out Alisa Miller’s books, commissioned some research on the subject they discovered that while more than six in ten men admitted they need help when it comes to talking to women, they also would not be willing to go into the more public forum of a bookshop and purchase a book like that.

“For us this was a problem,” explained Mark Foster, one of the editors at New Line Publishing, “it meant that while there was a real need for it and the market was there the method of delivery was an obstacle which would be hard to overcome.” This apparently prompted a major rethink in the company. “Normally with titles like that you release them on paper and then put in money marketing the direct mail order route. This however increases the costs and the inherent risk and creates a downward pressure on everything.”

The company’s solution was to take advantage of the burgeoning eBook market and release the book as an eBook only title instead. “Alisa Miller has been extremely good at using her online presence to promote both herself and her titles. We felt that here was a book which would be perfect as an eBook. You do need to have it with you wherever you are. It is a great title to have as part of your digital library precisely because you can dip into it when the need arises.”

Released through every online eBook retailer at the stroke of midnight on 20th September the title seems to have been received well. “Every book is a risk for the publisher,” says Mark Foster, “How to Talk to a Girl You Like has the potential to help change the online and offline man/woman interaction and that is something great to be involved in.”
