About Movie: “Ruby McCollum” is based off the 1956 bestselling book “Ruby McCollum: Woman in Suwannee County Jail,” by award winning author William Bradford Huie. This is the sensational story of the 1952 murder of a prominent white doctor/senator-elect, by a wealthy black woman who was the mother of his youngest daughter. Ruby, denied her First Amendment rights, was railroaded into silence, resulting in her being the first black woman to be sentenced to die in the electric chair. A shocking story of greed, deceit, and racial inequity that paved the way for the Civil Rights Movement.
