HR Florida Announces 2011 Volunteer of the Year

Orlando, FL – HR Florida could not be successful without the hard work and support of the volunteer leaders, those chapter presidents and board members who make up the HR Florida State Council. This annual award recognizes a volunteer who actively supports, promotes, and develops the human resource profession through volunteerism. Chapter presidents selected the winner by evaluating nominees on the overall contributions the nominee has made to support the chapters, advance the profession and drive council effectiveness through outstanding approaches, innovative ideas and promotion of the Society and Council.
Over the past year, Damian Taylor, Esq., with the Naples Law Firm, Coleman, Hazzard, & Taylor, has contributed significantly to the HR Florida State Council’s goal of “advancing the profession” through his leadership as the council’s State Government Affairs (GA) Director and in his chairmanship of the inaugural HR Florida Tallahassee Day on the Hill.

This is Damian’s second year as the GA Director. In addition to serving in this role, he has served in other council roles throughout the past several years. Damian is full of ideas on how to create efficiencies in different council processes and is often sought out to serve on various council committees. He also has worked closely with the federal government affairs director to communicate and educate the council on legislative activities.
In particular, Damian led the initiative to develop and implement the first-ever Day on the Hill. In less than seven months time, Damian created a committee, determined agenda, lined up keynote speakers, arranged for a visit to the Capitol, and coordinated program certification to offer four strategic continuing education credits to participants.

Not only was Damian successful in pulling off a great program, he exceeded his goal of 50% chapter participation by attracting 17 chapters to the event with 40 attendees. Those 40 attendees met with over 15 state legislators who were successful in advocating for changes in legislation regarding guns in the workplace, e-Verify, unemployment compensation and civil rights updates. The program was so successful it has now become the standard for legislative activities at the state level.
From Damian’s advocacy for council activities to his leadership of the inaugural Day on the Hill, Damian exhibits all of the qualities of a Volunteer of the Year. The HR Florida State Council is proud to honor Damian Taylor, Esq., with the HR Florida 2011 Volunteer of the Year Award.
