Hudson Valley Karate School Focuses on Communiyu

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 28, 2009 -- Located in the Hudson Valley, New York Karate Academy has been spreading the tenants of traditional martial arts for 2 years. With a strong emphasis on community and an extraordinary character development curriculum, Master DiStefano's leadership training has helped children and teens to become more actively involved in their community.

Master DiStefano believes it is imperative for martial art leaders to lead by example. While running his full time karate school, he still finds time to teach martial arts to underprivileged children. I believe that just because you can not afford to pay for karate classes, you can still benefit from the value of the training. It is my social responsibility to spread my art to the world, not just the fortunate.

This attitude has inspired him to create a nonprofit After-School Karate Program in the Hudson Valley through the local Salvation Army. These children, says DiStefano, are very susceptible to peer pressure, gang violence, and drug abuse. If we sit idle and we do not find a way to become a positive influence, we are ultimately contributing to the problem. I am, through New York Karate Academy and my community service, dedicated to being a part of the solution.

Master DiStefanos philosophy is to teach people early how to be successful so later in life they have the ability to set goals and attain them. "Habits we train are habits we gain, says DiStefano, so he believes in teaching children the importance of perseverance and hard work. Success is only possible when coupled with hard focused work, discipline, and perseverance."
