FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) September 10, 2009 -- When LSU’s “Golden Band From Tigerland” marches into Louisiana Music Hall of Fame (LMHOF) history this weekend, it will also reflect on honors for songwriting that will be bestowed posthumously on the team of the Huey P. Long and Castro Carazo, famed for compositions like “Every Man a King” and “Touchdown for LSU.”

“We have always planned to honor songwriters, stage performers, studio musicians and regional artists whose achievements deserve special recognition,” says LMHOF Executive Director Mike Shepherd. “Bringing in Huey and Castro at the same time we honor the LSU Tiger Band gives us the perfect opportunity to inaugurate our songwriters induction program.”

Long and Carazo collaborated on several songs in addition to the two noted above, including “Darling of LSU,” “LSU Cadets March” and “Miss Vandy: Dedicated to the Coeds of Vanderbilt University.” Shepherd notes that the Vanderbilt connection was purely coincidental to the Tiger Band’s selection of the LSU-Vanderbilt game Sept. 12 for a halftime musical salute to LMHOF and to be publicly inducted by the nonprofit organization.

The Induction Award will be formally presented jointly to Snapp and Long at a gathering for media and invited guests Friday, Sept. 11 at the Lod Cook Alumni Center, when the LSU Tiger Band award will also be officially bestowed. Dr. Charlie Roberts, LSU Alumni Association president, will greet the gathering as both a Tiger Band alumnus and as a personal friend of Carazo.

The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame is under the auspices of the certified nonprofit La Musique de Louisianne, Inc. LMHOF plans to induct many additional music hit makers and pioneers associated with the state’s rich and diverse music legacy, and to provide special recognition to many more regional favorites and to luminaries in songwriting and performance. The group also envisions continuing and expanding its educational and promotional activities while seeking support to obtain brick and mortar facilities to advance its mission.

Please visit the Web site and Virtual Museum portal at www.LMHOF.org and our new Press Room area. The organization also maintains “Louisiana (LA) Music Hall of Fame” pages and video links on Facebook, You Tube and MySpace.
