Even in the best of times it is difficult for a formerly homeless person to find meaningful work.
Hundreds of job seekers are expected to gather at the Los Angeles Mission for the 10th annual Skid Row Career Fair. This year’s event will draw dozens of companies and organizations looking for workers. There will be job opportunities, training prospects and other employment services available at the event.

WHO: The Los Angeles Mission is hosting the event – which is sponsored by the Los Angeles Central Providers Collaborative (LACPC), which also includes the Union Rescue Mission, Midnight Mission, Volunteers of America, the Weingart Center, L.I.T.E., the Los Angeles County Department of Education, the Belmont Community Adult School, Chrysalis and the Department of Social Services. Employment opportunities will be offered by Toyota, Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group, Wells Fargo, Home Depot, Vons Company, LAPD Recruitment, Verizon Wireless, SoCal Gas Company, Kaiser Permanente, Caltrans, SRO Housing, Fresco Community Market, and others. City Councilman Bernard C. Parks will give opening remarks.

WHY: Many in the Skid Row area are desperately looking for work, and the Los Angeles Mission and other service providers offer opportunities for both training and jobs. The Career Fair is an annual event to raise awareness, and to offer potential employers a place to interact with a ready source of workers.
