Yesterday’s mandatory evacuation order to residents and vacationers on North Carolina’s Ocracoke Island presents challenges to evacuees. Aside from the interruption of vacationers holiday at the beach evacuees are finding limited options once they are safely off the island via North Carolina’s ferry system.

http://www.all-pointsnc.com Catherine Kerrigone, Co-Founder of All-Points Personal Transportation reminded residents and visitors that options do exist for the safe removal of people, pets, and property in the path of the impending approach of Hurricane Earl. ‘At this critical time people are moving quickly to plan an evacuation strategy which begins with simply getting off this beautiful but remote island safely and quickly. Securing a spot on a ferry is priority one right now but the sheer number of people and their possessions create stress on the services on the mainland as well. Residents and businesses located on the low-lying mainland are also preparing for the storm putting pressure on already stressed transportation services. This creates additional stresses on the evacuees as they head for the interior of the coast. All-Points Personal Transportation is an established provider of personal transportation services on the coast and has the capabilities to safely and reliably remove clients and their possessions out of harm’s way.’
This is the first mandatory evacuation of Ocracoke Island since 2005 when Hurricane Ophelia pounded the coast with hurricane force winds and a strong storm surge. While forecasters are uncertain of the storm’s exact path they are certain that Ocracoke Island will feel the effects of Earl.
Kerrigone’s firm, All-Points Personal Transportation is known throughout eastern North Carolina as the premier transportation provider not only for normal travel arrangements but as a tightly well-organized operation during weather emergencies. This was demonstrated during the most severe winter in recent history when All-Points kept its fleet on the road while Governor Perdue declared a state of emergency across the region.
‘Our reservations, dispatch, and operations staff continue to field inquiries and confirm evacuation arrangements for people on the coast. Our fleet of vehicles manned by experienced staff has been placed on alert for immediate and round-the-clock dispatch to the Cedar Island and Swan Quarter ferry terminals. These are the terminals where Ocracoke Island evacuees will find refuge. Most people will opt for the Cedar Island ferry but we suggest Swan Quarter as a smart alternative as it is less travelled and securing a spot onboard may be easier. While Swan Quarter is somewhat remote we can meet clients and evacuate them to Greenville, Washington, and the Raleigh-Durham area for accommodations or to depart from any airport. In fact, for our clients we will make hotel reservations for them from our office to enable them to continue focusing on getting off of the island. One call to us at 919-836-9900 or 877-836-9905 is all our clients need to do to secure a reservation. We answer our phones 24 hours a day and will meet each ferry around the clock until conditions force us to cease operations.’
The Swan Quarter area also has a history of significant flooding due to storm surge which pushes massive amounts of water into the Pamlico Sound.
