His Katrina book was a first person nonfiction novel; he then published a play, "Brando, Tennessee & Me," followed by a technical and business text, "Taming the Email Tiger" and now the novel, "Jackson Squared." Smallwood kicked off a book tour last month with signings that included Prague and Berlin, and a U.S. is being scheduled.

"Jackson Squared" is a wild, hilarious tale of a man who makes it to New Orleans to pursue his artistic dreams but gets entangled in a series of mysterious voodoo murders instead. "It's a little misleading that I have released one book a year since the storm -- since this novel has been in the works for over seven years, and the 'Brando' play took several years as well," Smallwood said. "But if there is one thing that living through Hurricane Katrina taught me, it's that there is no time to waste in life."
