Hyundai Motor Company has come a long way from the 1990s as many Americans remember Hyundai as. In the automotive world of today consumers see the Japanese brands as the number one automotive makers in the world since the “Big 3” has recently undergone financial troubles, with the exception of Ford who has done quite well for themselves. With the Japanese looked upon as the number one automotive manufacturers, who is it that the Japanese fear as their number one competition? Some say it could be the upcoming economic powerhouse the Chinese. However talk to nay Japanese auto executive and they are likely to say that the South Korean automaker, Hyundai, is quickly rising as the most feared competitor.

“Hyundai is awesome,” said Honda Motor Company Chief Executive Takanobu Ito in an interview with The Associated Press this week. “They are undoubtedly a threat because their products are cheap, and the quality is improving.” Nissan Motor Company Senior Vice President agrees with this statement as he compared Hyundai to Samsung Electronics Company which has grown to rival Sony.

Preston Hyundai’s General Manager John Skalstad had this to say about the Hyundai Product line, “Hyundai’s line-up is the best it has ever been. The Genesis for one turned everyone’s head and made all automotive manufacturer companies realize that Hyundai is not who they used to be. Hyundai even made its statement with the Sonata and Elantra that it can compete. With superior quality, an inexpensive price tag, and great safety ratings many consumers are turning to Hyundai.”

Today, Hyundai and Kia (Hyundai’s affiliate) form the world’s fifth largest automotive group. It the past year they have seen sales surge in American, European, and Asian markets. On a more impressive note, Hyundai recently was the only auto manufacture in the world to see an increase in sales up 27% from September 2008. Hyundai will continue to increase market share and become one of the top competitors (if not already) in the world.
