iaedp Miami Presents Program on Treating Obesity Epidemic with Integrative Medicine

Miami, Florida (September 19, 2011) – With obesity rates skyrocketing and researchers predicting that half of all Americans will be obese by 2030 if the trend continues, the Miami Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Foundation (iaedp) announced it will be presenting a half-day professional development workshop on October 21 titled “Understanding and Exploring the Power of Integrative Medicine in the Treatment of Binge Eating Disorders and Obesity,” featuring Carolyn Coker Ross, M.D., an internationally known author, speaker, and expert in the use of Integrative Medicine for the treatment of Eating Disorders, Obesity and Addictions.

“A recent study by Columbia University researchers published in The Lancet reported that 50 percent of Americans could be obese by 2030 if current trends aren’t reversed,” said Amy Boyers, PhD, President of the Miami Chapter of iaedp, “Diets have failed. In fact, they may be contributing to the problem. Dr. Ross offers a comprehensive approach to treating the deeper underlying issues fueling the obesity epidemic.”

Dr. Coker Ross is a consultant for the dual diagnosis residential eating disorder program at The Ranch, a treatment center. Her latest book, The Binge Eating and Compulsive Overeating Workbook, describes a whole-person approach to treating binge eating disorder and obesity.
