IDAHO 17th May - Step it up Surrey

(Free-Press-Release.com) May 24, 2010 -- The aim behind the manifesto is to start getting public authorities to take action and show the true meaning behind equality and diversity rather than just words or perform a tick box exercise.

That evening held at the Talbot Inn, Ripley Chair Gino Meriano announced the Manifesto offers the public sector time to present 3 tangible goals to kick start the document and finally show proof of the actions taken by May 17th 2011 at the Surrey County Council offices in Kingston

IDAHO 2010, was one of the most controversial, radically honest and hard hitting events the charity has ever placed and the manifesto was launched to inform the authorities that the community will no longer make do with rhetoric or procrastination.

One week on, here’s the update

1. International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia
a. The date is set 17th May “every year” – no more excuses, be available on that day you have 51 weeks to prepare
2. Gay Surrey asked for 3 tangible goals from each public authority, statutory body, local authorities and public sector service providers
a. So far we have heard from Surrey Police, Surrey County Council, Chris Ward (Guildford Borough Councillor) and Surrey Youth Development Service.

Gino Meriano, chair of Gay Surrey comments” It is appalling, if somewhat expected that Surrey’s public sector feels so little for our community that it is not even worth acknowledging our call to action. My role as chair means I will not let this be swept under the carpet and ignored. If I have to stand up in front of Surrey’s LGB and T community and media on May 17th 2011 and announce there has been no support, no action and only excuses it will not be Gay Surrey who is embarrassed”.
