IIMSAM Official Applauded Nomination of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah in UNMDGs Advocacy Panel

Congratulating Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned on her inclusion to United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UNMDGs) Advocacy Panel, Dr. Naseer Homoud Goodwill Ambassador and Director of Middle East office for the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), the Permanent Observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council while addressing the media said “ I have no words to express my pleasure on appointment of H.H Sheikha Mozah in elite UN panel for supporting and advocating UNMDGs. Today, I am of firm opinion that with support and advocacy of H.H Sheikha Mozah, the efforts of United Nations towards achieving UNMDGs shall gain momentum.”

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently announced for establishing an advocacy group of eminent persons to galvanize support worldwide towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by their target date of 2015. Among the ‘real life superheroes’ Her Highness shall work towards eliminating poverty, increasing school enrollment, bettering maternal health and access to clean water and sanitation. The Panel shall be co-chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. The panel shall also work on mobilizing political and social will for accomplishment of UNMDGs. The group is tasked with helping Mr. Ban to build political will and mobilize global action on the eight Goals ahead of the high-level summit on the issue that will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York in September.

“The preference of Secretary General is very natural while acknowledging the works of Her Highness in international arena in context of her advocacy and implementation of initiatives and programmes designed to address issues of poverty, illiteracy and empowering women” said Dr. Homoud. Sheikha Mouza has already proved her style of functioning as special envoy to UNESCO for supporting educational reforms and her nomination to the MDGs panel is definite to act as catalyst for the MDGs accomplishment, asserted Dr. Homoud. “Arab region is an important part of the world in all perceptive and the reports on MDGs shows that the development to this end in somehow sluggish and having such circumstances prevailing I am of the firm opinion that Her Highness role in the advocacy panel would boost the morale in the region as well as in motivating political will”, said Dr. Homoud.

Dr. Homoud emphasized that by sincere, honest and dedicated efforts of Her Highness she has proved herself as a champion of human rights, women empowerment, educational reforms and her orientation is not confined to any geographical boundaries, she has worked tirelessly and determinedly be it Palestine, Gaza, other African or the Asian countries. “Indeed she is a torchbearer in the path of fight against almost all the social evils and her tremendous energy directed towards welfare of the people is certainly inspirational”, he added.

Speaking on charismatic personality of H.H Sheikha Mozah, Dr. Homoud said “the nomination of Her Highness to Elite UN Panel is itself an evidence of the qualities which Her Highness has. The diligent, sincere and honest efforts of Her Highness towards making this world better are indeed praiseworthy and deserve appreciation and applaud from all corners. I pray almighty to bestow more courage and strength to Her Highness for achieving her goals, which represents the welfare of world community particularly of downtrodden and marginalized fellow human beings”.
