IIMSAM Official expressed his camaraderie for earthquake affected people of Chile

In his appeal to world community for support rehabilitation work in Chile after earthquake disaster, Dr. Naseer Homoud Goodwill Ambassador and Director of Middle East office for the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), the Permanent Observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council urged all governments and organizations to extend their helping hands to Chile rehabilitation and relief work being undertaken by numerous organization and with support of several governments. Dr. Homoud while addressing the media said “the immediate response is to provide food, water, first aid kits, emergency packets, blankets, candles and other urgently required supplies to the affected people for which they are in dire need”.

According to reports the massive, 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile February 27 occurred in an offshore zone that was under increased stress caused by a 1960 quake of magnitude 9.5, the earthquake, some 300-500 times more powerful than the magnitude 7.0 quake in Haiti Jan. This devastating earthquake struck Chile, toppling homes, collapsing bridges and plunging trucks into the fractured earth. The region and surrounding areas continue to experience aftershocks and the devastation continues to unfold as rescuers work to save as many as possible. While calling support for relief and rehabilitation work there Dr. Homoud urged for channelized support from the world community. He said “we have seen the catastrophic affect of earthquake in Haiti and the response from the world community to this disaster was really splendid. This tendency needs to be repeated in Chile and I am optimistic that world community as usual will leave no stones unturned for relief and rehabilitation work there”

“Our hearts go out to those impacted by the earthquake. We hope by supporting relief and rehabilitations work there, we will be able to support the people who are adversely affected, across the areas in Chile most impacted by this tragic event.” Dr. Homoud said while reaffirming his commitment to relief and rehabilitations work in Chile. He stressed that even Chile is comparatively prepared to cope with situation even the effects of the global food crisis and particularly the present disaster have left the country dangerously vulnerable.
