IIPM Staff & Students took the initiative to open eyes of students towards environment conservation and encouraged them with a motto of “Kick the habit! Towards a Low Carbon Environment” .The only goal of SEED club was to make people aware about the hazardous effect done by them on our environment with a fun activity called “Making Best Out Of The Waste” contest. In which the students had to use all waste material that they throw away in day to day life or they can collect.
The participation was not expected by us but world is full of surprises, it turned out that there were 11 teams participating consisting of approximately 5 students each. So it felt good that at least there was some awareness created among 55 students, so that they can make other people aware about environment and this world can be made a beautiful place to live.
The students brought some scrap news papers and with help of friends, with tension and masti they decorated the canteen. Arrangements were done by giving each group two tables to start making their models. And yes the staff was left out with no tables for lunch. We gave each table alphabets from A-K to the participants, starting from the canteen counter to the cube near table tennis area.
The initial stage of the event was very chaotic as the participants didn’t co-operate but then given a threat of negative marking they were co-operative. Some participants were absent and some were late, but after all they were the people who made the event successful. With the help of rocking music, uproar and some enthusiastic people the event went smoothly.
The participants came up with some innovative as well as scientific ideas. Some were
like bio-gas plant, a village scene, a basket, generated electricity from potato to light a led and the winners made a lamp, a pot, a bag and a wind chime. But we must say, all the participants were very creative and deserve applauds. The event ended at 4:30 pm when judges Prof. Sudipto Chatterjee and Prof. Arun Varghese judged all the models and also questioned all the participants about their model. After the SEED Club event was over, there was Tug of War and Cricket tournament under the banner of TORQUE Club in the canteen, where Tug of War was for the 1st & 4th Trimester student’s girls and Cricket was for the 1st and 4th Trimester student’s boys.
