In Focus: Service Quality And Hygene In Hospitals

La Madeleine/Corbie/Essen: Meals are one of the few pleasant aspects of a stay in hospital - if they taste good. And TÜV NORD France is making sure that the service is as it should be in a 338-bed hospital in Corbie in Northern France. Dr. Eric Boyer, Chief Executive of the hospital, has launched a project to improve the quality of service associated with the hospital catering. TÜV NORD France will accompany the process over the coming year and then certify it, and it will be the first project of its kind for the company. The entire process is to be considered, starting with the initial delivery of the food to the hospital up to serving of the meals to the patients. As part of inspection and certification, hygiene management will also be considered in the light of HACCP.

"Certified service quality" is a mark that is already well known in Germany, and the aim is to make it just as well known in France. "We can make good use of our experience from Germany", says Philippe Böhm, who heads TÜV NORD France. The focus will be on service organisations, and also on companies with a homogeneous product range who are also service providers. "The mark will help our clients to rise above the competition", adds Böhm, who has already observed just this phenomenon in the German market.

"And a further aspect in France is that a German certificate is associated with particularly high quality", continues Böhm. The fact that TÜV is a well-known and highly-respected German institution therefore augurs extremely well for the success of the mark, and Böhm is expecting increased demand for certification - the market potential is certainly present.

Besides system and product certification, the company also offers mobility-related services and technical inspections. "And we will soon also offer energy management certification according to ISO 16001", says Böhm, looking towards the future. In France too, environmental awareness is increasing and people are reacting to higher energy prices, and so this is an area of activity that is growing in importance.
