In the Last 14 Years Few Female DJs Have Been Announced in the Electric Daisy Carnival Line Up

If you are at all familiar with the electronic dance music genre, then you more than likely have heard of Electric Daisy Carnival, or in short EDC. For the past fourteen years the EDC has grown to become one of the largest electronic dance festivals outside of Europe. It has been held annually on the last weekend of June in Southern California from 1997 to 2010. Throughout the years satellite events have also been held in Dallas, Orlando, Puerto Rico and Colorado. This year the EDC festival producers, Insomniac Events, have decided to switch up their formula. Instead of hosting the festival in Southern California, they have decided to go with the surreal desert landscape of Las Vegas, Nevada. Normally held for two days, the party has been extended to a three-day long event. Another surprise is that this year three female DJs have been incorporated into the usual male dominated EDC line up.

DJ Tatiana has been selected as one of the premier ladies of EDC. When you first meet Tatiana Alvarez she appears to be a sleek super model type that graces the cover of high fashion magazines, but after speaking with her at length you come to find that looks can be deceiving. For the past eight years Alvarez has been recognized as a seasoned DJ, Producer and an Entrepreneur in the electronic music industry. Alvarez founded Jook Music in 2005 and has succeeded in licensing her production to the likes of ESPN, Spike TV and Ogilve. DJ Tatiana was spotlighted on the cover of the LA times Calendar Section that featured her in an article on successful Female DJs. That same cover later became the billboard for the LA Times on top of the W Hotel, on Hollywood and Vine. Recently Alvarez was also ranked among the top 100 Djs on The DJ List.com.

As easy as it could be to use her sex appeal to sell, DJ Tatiana has chosen to go the opposite route. Alvarez has actually booked gigs as a male, using a false male persona to increase her bookings and ultimately to be taken seriously as a talented female producer in a male driven industry. When speaking with Tatiana on how she feels about being one of the first women to take the stage of the festival, playing along side major headliners such as Richie Hawtin, Paul Oakenfold and David Guetta, she humbly replies “I do what I love to do, that’s playing good music that I would want to hear and I think people respect that.”

DJ Tatiana plays at EDC this Friday on the Cosmic Meadow Stage. The Electric Daisy Carnival will take place from Friday June 24 - Sunday June 26, 2011 at The Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd, N. Las Vegas, NV 89119. Guests must be 18+ to enter.
