In other words the small companies which have an experience of a large price change will not have as much as impact on the index as small change in one of the largest companies.

Thus index option trading is very popular because the risk is considered to be lower than the individual stock. The index representing a variety of socks and it is less subjected to the same adverse pressure which an individual company may experience a rapid decline in its value.
