Cleantech investment in India dramatically increased in 2011. In the solar sector, India say its installed capacity increase from 18 MW to 227 MW during the 2010-2011 period. A report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance noted that an additional 500-700 MW may be installed in 2012.
In the wind sector, nearly 3000 MW of installed capacity was added in 2011. This is a sharp increase over 2010, a year in which India installed roughly 2000 MW of wind power. The same Bloomberg report estimated an additional 2500 MW of wind power coming in 2012.
In terms of financing, the Bloomberg report noted that venture capital and private equity firms provided the bulk of India’s cleantech investment. The report stated that these forms of financing increased nearly four times over 2010 levels.
