IndianArtCollectors.com begins this year with "Surajit Santra" as the feature Artist
IndianArtCollectors begins this year by featuring the work of the artist who comprehends the realities of the real world through his art – Surajit Santra. Born in Howrah, West Bengal Surajit wanted to become an artist from a very young age. After completing school from his hometown, he moved to Santiniketan and left the beautiful land of Tagore for the urbane and developed national capital after 7 years, but only after securing a masters degree in Fine arts from the renowned Kala Bhavan.
For him, painting is the reflection of thoughts; an image of our soul reflected on the canvas through splashes of colors. It is an interpretation of life and world through the artist’s own looking glass. Surajit's paintings explore the imaginative and surreal world, yet they are full of contradicting reflections of some hidden realities of the real world. The condiments of his paintings come from his daily life; it might be from experiences or from the land of his imagination. In our life we face many complexities. Things that may appear beautiful to our senses are not always beautiful, and may also turn out to be the worst experiences of our life. The tangles and cobwebs of Surajit’s paintings depicts all these complexities of our life.
Since the beginning, Surajit's life has been the source of his paintings. It is the world of his perception, as he see it, feels it, experiences it and dreams about it. To him his art is a synthesis of his personal feelings. "Movement with colours and roughness of brushing help me to depict my thoughts. My paintings are excerpts from my own life.
For an artist, the only thing more important than making art is making art from the heart.
My painting is a mirror of my heart and my thoughts" says Surajit Santra.
