Dr. Gerbarg will provide an overview of depression and suicide in the U.S. and around the world, common causes of depression, how stress, loss, low self-esteem, seasonal changes, and other factors contribute to depression, the impact of the holiday season on depression and suicide, and warning signs that it is time to seek professional help for oneself or a family member. Dr. Gerbarg will discuss integrative treatments: the use of medications, psychotherapy, natural treatments, and mind-body practices to overcome depression. The conversation will be between Gerbarg, Hendrix, and host Garrison.

Dr. Gerbarg is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to her clinical practice, she provides consultation and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices for recovery from mass disasters such at the September 11th World Trade Center attacks, the southeast Asian tsunami, and military personnel. Letricia Hendrix is a graduate of the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Washington, D.C.
