This session will cover:
Every day, policy owners lapse or cash in a life insurance policy they no longer want, no longer need and/or cannot afford. Do you know how to recognize when a client might sell their policy for more than the cash surrender value? Learn how to help your clients maximize the sale price of their life insurance policy. Learn also what pitfalls to avoid and how to protect your client from financial mishaps.

Alex will discuss the history of how the business of life settlements came about and the difference between a life settlement and a viatical settlement, including tax ramifications. He will also talk about when a life settlement would be recommended over a 1035 exchange and what STOLI is, why it is illegal and how to distinguish it from a life settlement. He will list the 5 steps involved in the entire life settlement process along with the 4 players involved in the process and their respective fiduciary obligations.

Any financial professional who deals with or advises clients in relation to estate or financial planning, life insurance, corporate or personal liquidity or charitable gifting is encouraged to attend.
