Interior sales suffer amidst economic turmoil but suppliers rise to the challenge, finding ways to beat downturn

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) September 29, 2011 -- As times become harder, among the first things to be shelved are redecorating and refitting projects along with luxuries and anything that is not an immediate necessity. As such, kitchen fitting projects and other interior design activities saw a steep decline in early 2011. A poll conducted by KitchenBathDesign.com found that 65% of suppliers and fitters saw “less activity than was expected”, where only 14% experienced more activity than they had initially planned for.

When economic turmoil strikes, the industry is forced to rise to the challenge. In the place of refits, some suppliers have begun to sell replacement doors to give incumbent fittings a new look without requiring heavy investment. Other suppliers have capitalised on the would-be homeowner's inability to up-size in the housing market amidst reluctant lending trends; so they resort to space saving fitted kitchens and bathrooms instead.

Pinnacle KBB, a Preston based fitted interiors company that specialises in kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, welcomes the news:

"We’re finding that for some people, a downturn in the economy doesn’t mean that they should avoid investing in a quality kitchen. The worst of the recession is behind us and so people are feeling increasingly secure in their jobs and see less reason to rein in their spending” says Pinnacle KKB’s Managing Director, Stuart Heyes.

Pinnacle KBB provides a variety of services, namely interior planning and fitting; combatting the downturn with new offerings from German designers.

"We provide bespoke kitchen planning and fitting services tailored to the homes of our customers, retaining an emphasis on quality. The testimonials on our site are a testament to the skill of our fitters and planners; combined with our latest high gloss surfaces and German kitchens, we’re making the most of it” Stuart Heyes says.

The decline has however seen less successful kitchen fitters cease trading or enter liquidation. Omega

Kitchens, a premier kitchen manufacturer that relies on a network of distributors, has had a problem with resellers of their kitchens and has since had to introduce a deposit guarantee scheme so that kitchen buyers are not left wanting should their supplier disappear, stating that they will deliver and fit the kitchen themselves under these circumstances.

Despite the unfavourable climate, Mr Heyes is looking forward to the run up to the holiday season.

"In the winter months before the Christmas, we expect more people to look to upgrade their kitchens to make the most of the space they have available to them. Trends have continued to lean towards people staying in and so it makes sense to make the most of that ‘in’ space that they do have. It’ll be a very busy time for us." Stuart Heyes adds.
