The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Foundation (iaedp) announced the formation of a Miami chapter under the leadership of a board of directors that includes: Amy Boyers, PhD, President; Nicole Eldridge Marcus, PhD, Vice President; Sammi Siegel, PhD, Treasurer; and Alma Lovaton Quagliato, LMFT, Secretary.
“Eating disorders are highly prevalent in our community and we’re seeing younger and younger boys and girls develop symptoms,” said Dr. Amy Boyers, an eating disorder specialist in Miami and President of the iaedp Miami chapter. “It is crucial that health and mental health professionals develop skills to recognize and treat this growing problem, and our continuing education seminars will provide the necessary professional development so problems are identified earlier and treated successfully.”
The iaedp Miami chapter will provide professional development, continuing education and networking opportunities to mental health and healthcare providers in the community who work or are interested in learning more about working with people with eating disorders, a growing mental health concern with some of the highest mortality rates among mental disorders.
The Miami chapter’s first continuing education event will be held October 21 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Miami Dadeland Marriott and feature Carolyn Coker Ross, M.D., an internationally known author, speaker, and expert in the use of Integrative Medicine for the treatment of Eating Disorders, Obesity and Addictions, who will present on “Understanding and Exploring the Power of Integrative Medicine in the Treatment of Binge Eating Disorders and Obesity.”
Established in 1985, iaedp is recognized for its excellence in providing first-quality education and high-level training standards to an international multidisciplinary group of healthcare treatment providers who treat the full spectrum of eating disorder problems, from anorexia to bulimia to binge eating and obesity. The organization offers a rigorous certification process for those who wish to receive specialized credentials in their work with people with eating disorders.
“We are excited to add Miami to our list of chapters,” said Alice Gibson, iaedp Foundation Chapter Director. “We offer many opportunities for our members to exchange ideas and information related to the field of eating disorder treatment.”
Membership to the new chapter is available for a discounted annual rate of $100, or $95 off the regular rate. Members receive discounted registration at the annual symposium, discounted core course fees, opportunities to participate in a continuing education programs online or through their local chapters, among other benefits.
