International Photography Awards 2009 Announced Honorable Mention Winners

(Free-Press-Release.com) August 26, 2009 -- International Photography Awards (IPA) announced winners of the 2009 competition. Megan McKenzie of Eureka, California won two Honorable Mentions for Deeper Perspective in the non-professional category for her entry titled “Tranquility Gates”.

“Tranquility Gates” is reminiscent of Japanese Torii gates. “I visited Japan and the visual impact of the Torii gates were tattooed on my soul,” said McKenzie. “Traditional Torii gates mark the transition from the (profane) world into the (sacred) shrine. This bridge reminded me of those gates but with a slightly different meaning. They appear from nothing and disappear into nothing. Once part of a bustling water way for commerce, these post and piers are being reclaimed by nature. As I grow in age, I too feel bit by bit I am being reclaimed by nature. I intended this image to be representative of that transformation from spirit into physical life and the ultimate passage into physical death back into spirit.”

Exhibition
McKenzie is a freelance fine art and commercial photographer. She is currently seeking opportunities for publication and exhibition in books, magazines, galleries, and art shows. “Tranquility Gates” will be on display during the Redwood Art Association’s 51st Annual Summer Exhibition from August 26-September 18 at 220 First Street, Eureka, CA.
