Invisco Announces R38, R49 and R60 Whole House Fan Insulation
January 22, 2012 Energy & Oil news in Temecula,California, United States of America
Whole house fan installation requires holes to be cut in your home's ceiling. Those holes could let cold air down from the attic. Now you can prevent that with this new ceiling mounted duct design.

There have been no whole house fan systems on the market to date that offer insulated ceiling duct connections that meet or exceed the latest International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) for 2012. IECC now requires R49 rating in attics for new homes built in climate zones 4 and 5. R49 was already required in zones 6 and 7. These 4 zones include over half of the area of the United States.
The entire zone map may be found at ZONES
R49 performance requires special techniques in mechanical design when connecting a whole house fan to a hole in your ceiling. In the past, homeowners were forced to install covers over the ceiling opening for the winter. But most covers cannot possibly meet the R49 performance unless they are very high R value, such as vacuum panels or the new NASA spinoff material Aerogel. Even Aerogel does not give R ratings better than R10 per inch of thickness so you need almost 5 inches of the material covering the ceiling opening. And if the opening is like most, it is at least a square foot or more. Aerogel is very expensive and would not be cost effective as a cover.
The best solution is to install the insulation in the attic right at the ceiling interface. One whole house fan supplier, Tamarack Technology, has a nice motor driven door system that they claim meets R38 performance through the doors. What is not known is the R rating of the box the doors are mounted on. To date they have not offered higher R ratings.
Invisco has developed an attic mounted duct connecting system that offers R rating performance all the way up to R60 or more. This patent pending system combines the best features of Aerogel, "thermally broken" mechanical assembly, trapped air, and inexpensive cellulose insulation to give you the option to achieve R38, R49 and even R60 performance.
Available in all popular duct sizes from 6 inches diameter up to 20 inches diameter, the Invisco Model RDAMPR is affordable and easy to install. Note that it is perfect for ducted whole house fan systems such as those supplied by QuietCool and Airscape. Prices start at $195 for the 14 inch model to fit QuietCool's QC1500 system and Airscape's Kohilo.
Now any home in any climate can install an energy saving whole house fan and not worry about cold attic air in the winter.
