IOT make food safety transparent

Just when majority of consumers are worring about food safety, some cities in Jiangsu Province have introduced IOT technology to make food safety process “visible”, thus to help consumers enjoy the fresh fruit,meat and vegetables confidently finally.

IOT for food safety

In recent years, there have been problems of food safty inside or outside the country now and then.Sauce and peanut butter for snack bars have salmonella;fresh spinage has colibacillus;some milk and pets’food has been added by melamine etc, which makes consumers shocking and worring.

Problems such as food quality,safety supervision and treacibility etc have drawn the utmost attention from government of various levels.

In the end of last year, Beijing took the lead in introducing IOT into food safety area to ensure that the food supply is safe and reliable in such capital city.This year, Shanghai has carried out “food safety knowledge for ten thousand home for the coming EXPO” in a deep-going way to

intensify food safty supervision and supervision technology support, and to actively promote and apply technical methods such as the electronic tag for the records of food flow direction and temperature monitoring system of auto alarm etc, thus to increase citizens’ food safety consciousness and the whole level of food safety in urban area.

Meanwhile, some national cities and states have started food quality and safety traceability system, which provides the traceability mode of “farmlands to dining-tables”, draws concerned public traceability elements from supply chains such as production,processing,circulation and consumption etc, and establishes food safety information database to be able to find the crucial reasons once problems happen.

Eat meat and vegetables confidently by IOT.

Xue Yuanchun, doctor from business school of Nanjing University,said, the accidents about food safty have happened frequently for one of the important reasons that it is lacking supervision from production to sales.So to intensify the supervision of the whole process for the subsidiary agricultural products from production to circulation can decrease the potential safety hazard to the lowest level. IOT can play an important role in such field.

As one of the enterprises, which have taken the lead in focusing on IOT R&D,Yuantuo has applied IOT technology into food safety management for a long time. Taking the pork safety as an example,the electronic chip, which has been fixed into the pork in the open fair, can follow each links for the pork products such as production,processing,wholesale and retail etc.For details, the electronic origin of scale will be fixed for the pork store in the open fair.Consumers can claim for a receipt containing the food safety traceability code,by which the multiaspect information for the live pig such as source,slaughter house,quality and quarantine etc can be inquired, which has already been executed in Chengdu,Qingdao etc.

It is known from journalists that people can eat not only the reassuring meat but also the reassuring vegetables without any pesticide residue. According to the introduction from Mr Huang Guoping, IOT R&D director from Nanjing Yuantuo Technology, as long as we use various kinds of sensors such as humidity,air-sensitive,illumination and chemical etc to monitor the whole process of vegetable growth and manage it digitally,to sense if the organic chemical synthesis of fertilizer,pestiside,growth regulator and feed additive etc have been added during the production process, to manage every batch of seed source, class, breeding area and the situation of the process such as breeding, production, quality quarantine and transportation etc.

Such standard management makes safety and quality not only visible but also publicly credible.Following IOT, data can be collected and analyzed in 24 hours without interuption to make not only the business runners but also the consumers “watch food”and eat relievedly.
