iPinion Survey Shows 17% Increase In 2011 Black Friday Shoppers

Columbus, Ohio, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) December 6, 2011 -- iPinion, a leading mobile survey provider, polled consumers on their mobile phones Thursday evening at 8PM local time asking if they planned to participate in Black Friday events.

About two thirds—67% responded “yes” with many adding photos of long lines already queued up at Black Friday retailers. In 2010, fifty seven percent of the same shoppers indicated they took part—further confirmation supporting retailer claims of a strong increase in 2011 Black Friday holiday sales.

Walmart, Target and Best Buy were the top three retailers that consumer said they waiting in line for. Electronics were the most sought-after products with 87% of consumers targeting electronic gadgets offered at deep discounts. Fifty eight percent said clothing and shoes—the second most mentioned category.

Black Friday shoppers show a strong female skew—two thirds (63%) of shoppers. 2011 shoppers skewed younger and lower income with 66% under 34 years of age, and 32% under $25,000 household income.

Shoppers were also asked to provide candid photos off their mobile phones if they were already lined up waiting at their favorite retailer. 33.5% of the participants who were shopping on black friday, provided pictures.

iPinion surveyed 426 mobile phone owners on Thursday evening with 287, or 67% responding positively when asked if they planned to participate in Black Friday.
