Ira Horowitz Addresses Double Standards with Youth Forum

Wingspan Seminars’ Youth Coordinators decided to recognize Women’s History Month with speakers and follow-up “Girl Talk” round tables. Next week’s topic on blogtalk radio show, Conflict Corner, Wednesday, March 10th at 6:00 PM, will be double standards. Ira Horowitz will lead an online seminar entitled, “Sexism: How it Harms Us All”. Thema Campbell of Girl Power Inc. will participate in the girl talk follow up discussion with the youth.
Adialyn Milien, North Miami High School senior, with a group of other teenage girls, will listen as they learn how females are playing an active role in perpetrating sexism in our society. Ira Horowitz who has trained professionals and youth internationally will give examples of how Americans continue the practice of sexism and gender inequalities. Too, how the double standards not only harm women and their perceptions of self but how it simultaneously harms men. Ira, recently returned to South Africa to continue this training. Mr. Horowitz has also led workshops in the prison system, Dade County Public Schools and for mental health professionals. His trainings are to reduce sexual harassment and other forms of violence and help women learn how to live more fulfilling lives without colluding with sexism.
Girl Power, whose mission is to empower girls to succeed in this world, “One Girl at a Time,” by promoting positive behavior and social skills, has been an inspiration and encouragement to young girls and their mothers since 1992. Thema Campbell, CEO and president, will lead the round table discussion with students as they reflect on tips from Mr. Horowitz’s presentation. Cherrelle Canty, American, Radhika Thompson, Carol City, and Rose Renee Exantus will join Adialyn as they share how sexism has affected their lives.
Hugs for Haiti
Wingspan Seminars’ youth coordinators are collecting stuffed animals for their Hugs for Haiti Campaign to give the children something warm to hold on to. Mayor Pierre and Commission Audrey Edmondson are supporting this initiative that will assist the youth as they collect from the police and fire departments in Miami-Dade. Conflict Corner addresses youth topics and is run ‘by youth for youth’ with a monthly speaker and current events. The show launched in November during Global Entrepreneur week and addresses topics such as bullying, HIV/Aids and intercultural dating.
