July 2, 2010

The most popular reason people use Botox injections is to smooth out frown lines, the wrinkles between your eyebrows.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 2, 2010 -- Botox is classified as a neurotoxin and is injected into muscles to block nerve signals that cause uncontrollable tightening or movements of the muscle. Botox is also known as Botox Cosmetic, BoNT-A, BTA, and Botulinum Toxin Type A.

OnabotulinumtoxinA or Botox can be used for a variety of medical and cosmetic reasons. One popular reason for prescribing Botox injections is to relieve the symptoms related to cervical dystonia, a condition that causes uncontrollable tightening of the neck muscles. Blepharospasm, the uncontrollable tightening of eyelid muscles that cause blinking, squinting, and abnormal eyelid movements is also treated with Botox injections. Botox can even be used to treat severe armpit sweating in adults. It works by decreasing the glands activity, thus reducing sweating. The most popular reason people use Botox injections is to smooth out frown lines, the wrinkles between your eyebrows.

OnabotulinumtoxinA comes as a powder that is mixed with a liquid and injected into a muscle or skin by a doctor. If Botox is being used to treat frown lines, cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, strabisumus, or upper limb spasticity it you may need additional injections after 3-4 months to treat these conditions. If you are using Botox to treat excessive underarm sweating you may need further injections every 6 months or when your symptoms return.

Often doctors start patients on a low dose of Botox and will adjust further injections based on your body's response to the medication. Doctors often use either an anesthetic cream, cold pack, or special eye drops to numb your skin/eyes prior to injections.

Botox injections can help control these conditions, but it is not a cure. It may take days or weeks before you see the full benefit of Botox injections.

Botox injections have also been used to treat excessive sweating of palms, wrinkles on the face(other than frown line), tremors, certain types of migraines, and even anal fissures. It has also been used to improve mobility in children with cerebral palsy or in adults who have suffered a stroke.

Prior to receiving Botox injections you should always tell yoru doctor if your are allergic to Botox, Dysport, myobloc, or any other medications. You should also tell your doctor if you are on any prescription medications;especially certain antibiotics (amikacin, clindamycin, colistimethate, getamicin, kanamycin, lincomycin, neomycin, polymyxin, streptomycin, and tobramycin. Botox can also interact wiht allergy or cold medications, sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, and quinidine.

Botox injections may cause a loss of strength and muscle weakness throughout the body or even impaired vision. If you are receiving Botox to treat limb spacticity you may also need physical therapy.
