. The authenticity of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is sometimes questionable since there is always fake Jamaican blue mountain coffee around. I had a customer Last year around Thanksgiving taking a note of our 150lb barrel of Jamaican blue mountain coffee dumped in a corner of the room, and exclaim, "Wow, I bought just the same Blue Mountain Coffee at the bulk store for $7.99lb! I said the real Jamaican blue mountain coffee and the one you got at the bulk store is definitely not Jamaican blue mountain coffee. How does the customer know that the Jamaica blue mountain coffee is a real one? How do you know as a retailer or a customer that what you're buying is, genuine?

Let us have quick glance at the facts about the Jamaican blue mountain coffee. Many years ago, the average annual production of this coffee was about ¼ million pounds of green beans with a good 80 percent going straight to the Japanese market. With that said one can understand that over 90% of the Blue Mountain Coffee sold that year in the US as real Blue Mountain Coffee, was actually not the real thing. Next to that, the certifying authority for this coffee is the Jamaican Coffee Industry Board. Their important rule is to with stand strict requirements for identifying and labelling all Jamaican blue mountain coffee. In addition to that, because of many years of mistrust among the buyers and retailers, you can find that there is many more blended Blue Mountain Coffee than straight.

Up on the steep hillsides of the mountain the arabica trees produce the finest and smooth coffee beans known as all Jamaican blue mountain coffee. The mountains at north and east of Kingston tinge blue-green are at an altitude of 4000 to 7000 feet above sea level. Earlier part of the century holds the famous estates such as Wallenford has shipped exclusively to United Kingdom, as Jamaica was a British colony until 1962. At that period most of shipments to the other countries were of lesser variety like high land or lowland mountain coffee. If the bean is to be certified as Blue Mountain Coffee then it should be grown at the altitude of 3000ft to 5000ft and should be from any one of the three mentioned parishes. This is to ensure the authenticity and originality of the coffee bean produced. But in the late sixties the British people started to sell the original expensive Blue Mountain Coffee bean to the Japanese at a double price. The Jamaicans became outraged on this action of the British and they decided to protect themselves. So they decided to roast and pack the coffee before selling. But unfortunately that method doesn't suite with the customers who wish to buy green and roast themselves as per their taste. After that several methods were planned for the successful partnership between the Jamaican coffee growers and the Japanese buyers.
