An Article About How Positive Thinking Can Impact Ones Health

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New YORK ,New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) February 26, 2012 -- Findings from several recent studies suggest that positive thinking can have significant impact on health.

Dr. Geoffrey Williams, a professor of medicine, psychiatry, and psychology at the University of Rochester in New York recently published a comprehensive review of three studies which confirmed the benefits of thinking happy thoughts. He states that the idea behind the ‘positive affirmation’ technique is simple – people who feel good about what they’re doing are more likely to stay on track.

In one of the reviewed studies, Dr. Gbenga Ogedegba and colleagues at the University of New York studied the effects of positive-thinking interventions on patients with high blood pressure. Participants were encouraged to stick to their medication regimes by clinic staff who telephoned bi-monthly to inspire adherence, instructing participants to think about their “core values and proud moments in their lives” as they were taking their medication.

Findings from the study indicated that participants who engaged in positive thought were better able to adhere to a medication plan. Williams concluded his review by stating that, “The simple message is that patients have to remain positive even in the face of obstacles.”

But do we really need science to tell us that our health is affected by what we think? Non-traditional healing methods would suggest otherwise.

Chakra healing is an ancient form of therapy that is said to access the subtle energies present in the body. Positive affirmations are one of the central tenets of the practice.

Derived from Hindu mysticism, interest in the alternative healing technique has piqued in the United States, perhaps due to its success at treating a wide array of illnesses. The method is based on the existence of seven distinct chakra energy centers which are said to drive the functions of the mind, body, and spirit. Energy blockages can lead to both physical and mental health problems – including high blood pressure.

Carol Tuttle is an energy therapist working in Utah who uses the principles of chakra healing to address a wide variety of health issues present in the people she treats. She states that she uses the positive affirmation technique with a lot of clients because, “They just can’t find the words. They want so much to express themselves.” According to chakra healing, the simple act of repeating positive phrases out loud produces a beneficial shift in energy – enough to target a problem and reverse it.

Although it’s a rarity to hear the same message preached by western medical authorities and alternative healers alike, in this case the take-home message is pretty clear – positive beliefs can, indeed, shape your health. So the next time you find yourself at home with a case of the common cold, a little dose of optimism with your cough medicine can go a long way.
