Be On The Lookout To "Catch Him In The Act" of going where you don't want him to go!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 6, 2009 -- Catching your dog in the act of going in an area that you don't
want him to go is the best way to break him or her of their bad
habit and help you with your dog potty training.

In order for your dog to learn from his mistake, you have to
catch him in the act of "going". He won't understand that you're
mad at him for something that he did just a few minutes ago. He
definitely won't understand if a few hours go by.

If you do catch him starting to "go" where you don't want him

to, just interupt him with a loud "NO!" or if you have an item
that you use as a distractant just give it a loud click, bang
or shake.

It is absolutely imperative that you get your dog to his potty
place and wait there for a few minutes so he can finish what he
started inside or where you did not want him to go. Be sure to
give him a lot of praise with a positive voice inflection for
going in the area that you want him to go. Be sure that his next
few successes are rewarded during your dog potty training.

If you end up finding a pee puddle or a pile of feces, don't

rub his nose or face in it. Don't scream at him either. I know
this is contrary to what you really want to do. The problem is
that he will only get that you don't like finding messes and
eventually you will start finding the messes in different areas
of the house, areas that are out of sight. He will just get that
you don't want him to make the messes and of course he can't
completely stop his bodily functions.

Although he might look guilty, he won't connect the mess with
the act in his mind.

After the mess, punishments are rarely effective. They won't

solve your problem. They will only create a bunch of confusion
and in some cases stress for the dog. In fact, some dogs get so
stressed about about their messes that they start cleaning them
up by eating the evidence. It could possibly progress into a
horrible habit that could be hard to break.
