IWFL Enforces Safety Guidelines, Reschedules Home Opener for Durham-Based, Carolina Phoenix Women's Tackle Football Team

April 14, 2011

The Independent Women's Football League reschedules the season opener for the Carolina Phoenix Women's Tackle Football Team against the Georgia Peachez.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 14, 2011 -- Durham, North Carolina – The Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL) announced it has rescheduled Saturday’s Carolina Phoenix vs. Georgia Peaches game. The move to reschedule came after reports of a safety policy violation by the Savannah Georgia team owner. That team membership has since been transferred to a new representative that will revamp player training and increase practice quality for that team.

In order to ensure the new Savannah team has time to prepare for competition it was deemed necessary to reschedule the game set to be played in Durham this weekend. The Carolina Phoenix are currently ranked number two in the nation, and are known as one of the sports most dominant women’s teams. The reschedule will give the rookie Savannah team valuable full contact practice time as well as time to establish the new team organization, the Georgia Stingerz.

The Stingerz will be coached by Savannah, Georgia native and former NFL running back JoJo Jones. Mr. Jones plans to share his love of football with this new women’s team and hopes to build a winning organization for the city he calls home. The team will be working feverishly to prepare for their match up with the Phoenix and other IWFL teams this season.

“The IWFL Executive Council doesn’t generally make changes to the schedule once the season has kicked off but in this case we felt it was the right decision. Savannah needed to have time to practice in full gear before taking on a team the caliber of the Carolina Phoenix. We want good quality games that are played safely. A game between these two this weekend would not have met that criteria,” said Kezia Disney, IWFL Chief Operating Officer.
