January 25, 2012 - New Brunswick, New Jersey -- Johnson & Johnson's CEO notified shareholders during the company's annual meeting that they are hopeful for the years ahead. It a public knowledge that J&J faced a lot of tribulations which lead to a string of product recalls and ASR hip recall is just one of them which finally ended to Depuy hip recall class action.
William Weldon took the reign as Johnson & Johnson CEO in 2002. Admittedly, he told the media that the recalls had tormented him. Since 2009, the company succumbed to about two dozen recalls of prescription and nonprescription medicines which includes million bottles of Tylenol and Motrin, replacement hip system, contact lenses and diabetes test strips. Most of non J&J nonprescription drugs were manufactured at closed factory located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. The factory at the moment is currently modified into a state-of-art factory. Truly, the recall on hip replacements is just one of the throng of burdens that Weldon had endured.
The humble CEO admits that they indeed made mistakes and one of his direst goals is to restore J&J high standards of quality to eventually earn consumer's trust and regain J&J reputation.
Part of his speech during the meeting revealed that the company had inspected 120 plants that is located around the world and even invested millions to show that the company is serious of its rehabilitation. This will also ensures that the federal regulators will be satisfied of the three facilities that are being under observation.
One audience of the presentation boldly retortsWeldon that the company's string of product recalls a direct hit to J&J's credo. The audience is referring to J&J's corporate pledge that emphasizes its responsibility to doctors, nurses and most especially to patients. The company's corporate pledge is conspicuously displayed at all J&J headquarters and offices.
Another issue raised during the meeting was opened by PETA spokesperson is J&J's use of animal while training surgeons to use the company's state-of-the-art surgical tools. Weldon answered it by stating that J&J had already tried other alternatives whenever possible. PETA group had picketed outside the hotel dressed in piggy suits where the meeting had took place to protest of J&J animal testing. Pigs sometimes are being used in J&J surgical training.
Another group who was with PETA was a group of medical students who are against J&J's refusal to join in an international medicine patent pool which will make generic drug manufacturers to produce cheaper HIV medicines.
