Jaguar Recalls Thousands Of Cars Due To Major Software Glitch

The luxury car manufacturer has been forced to retract almost 18,000 X-type models after the bug meant drivers might not be able to turn the car’s on-board system off. The fault reportedly lies with the engine management control software developed in-house by Jaguar and it implies that a driver can only cancel the mode by turning off the engine.

The company has sent a letter out to customers warning them that models produced between 2006 and 2010 with diesel engines could be affected by the error.

A spokesperson from the firm said: “This potential problem was spotted by one of our employees. No customer has been affected and there had been no accidents or injuries.”

The letter states that if the cruise control is engaged, it cannot be switched off in the normal manner in some circumstances. Turning the ignition off will cancel the function.
