FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Queens, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 12, 2011 -- The Jamaica, Queens location of 106 St. Tire & Wheel, Inc is beginning an innovative role as a community educator by offering customers important information about conserving gas and, therefore, saving money. With winter approaching and the additional burden of heating homes, family budgets will be further impacted because gasoline prices have remained high.

106 St Tire and Wheel location in Jamaica services a diverse community as well as Kennedy Airport, Sunrise Highway and Valley Stream car service, taxi and TLC owners and 106 St Tire & Wheel is urging all drivers to use better judgment while driving to improve gas mileage and increase driver, passenger safety, and, now that school is open pedistrian traffic.

This year, 106 St Tire & Wheel, Inc. joined an elite group previously one dominated by the big international tire companies like Goodyear and Firestone. Jamaica’s own 106 St Tire and Wheel became the only independently owned tire dealers in the world to offer it’s customers a free downloadable e-book from their website to empower the community with money saving and safety tips.

A spokeswoman from 106 St Tire & Wheel stated, “We’re stepping up our efforts to make more information available to our customers, business owners of car services, limos, taxis and TLC companies and, in fact, the entire Jamaica and Valley Stream community as our policy to increase safety, awareness, cost consciousness because, as a family owned business ourselves, we are acutely aware of the impact of higher prices on our friends and neighbors in Jamaica, Elmhurst and Corona. We know people are stressed out, strapped financially and winter will add more stress as road conditions deteriorate and home heating bills add financial burdens.”

“Our Jamaica store on Merrick Blvd will be doing free tire inspections, free tire pressure checks, offering free flat tire repair for not for profit organizations serving children, the elderly, the disabled population, shut ins, TLC, car service and taxi owners. 106 St Tire & Wheel will be doing whatever we can to help defray the additional costs of maintaining a better quality of life.

“Very shortly, 106 St Tire & Wheel will be donating tires to not-for-profit groups and we will be making that announcement as soon as possible once we locate organizations in Jamaica and Valley Stream that can really use a break in this depressed economy.”

106 St’s spokeswoman continued, “106 St Tire & Wheel wants to remind drivers everywhere that driving on under-inflated tires can increase your cost by 3.75% in fuel economy and what’s worse is under-inflated tires can kill. Most tire-related accidents are caused by underinflated tires and each year 10,000 people are injured. We also want to remind drivers that over-inflating tires can be dangerous as well. Also, tires are a major investment so we want to point out that either of the above shortens the life of your tires. With tires costing so much, check your tire pressure often. At our Jamaica location and at all of our locations of 106 St. Tire & Wheel, this service is always free.”

“Also, we want to point out that over-inflation of tires does not increase gas mileage but it does reduce your tires’ ability to grip the road and, in the winter, this is very dangerous. Also, under-inflation is just as dangerous and can cost you nearly about 4% of your MPG. With gasoline at about $3.99 a gallon, you could save about 15 cents a gallon by checking your car manufacturer’s guidelines on the driver’s side door jam. This may not sound monumental, but, if everyone did it in Queens think about how much better our environment could be. Saving about 15 cents per gallon of gas adds up over the course of a year; why give it to the big oil? Aren’t they rich enough?"

Also, 106 St’s spokeswoman stated, “The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says gasoline saving devices and various additives are a waste of money. Consumer Reports testing has shown that with newer computerized cars, air filters that are clogged don't reduce fuel economy. Only older cars need attention to clogged filters so change them regularly to improve mileage.

“Keeping your car engine idling is a bad idea and it’s against the law here in NYC and a summons for polluting the air may result. Because all 106 St Tire & Wheel locations have nitrogen fill, we joined with Green City Challenge to add our voice to a cleaner, greener NYC. And we are advocating for putting to use new information RE: starting a car uses up more fuel...
this is a myth and that's stale information. The newer cars with fuel-injected engines are very efficient and don't waste gas during start-ups but idling can cost you up to half a gallon of gas an hour. If you drive an older model that does use lots of gas up in starting, turn the ignition off anyway and take the hit. That’s simply the cost of driving in the modern world on our fragile planet and avoiding a ticket.”

106 St Tire & Wheel’s spokeswoman continued, “If you really want to save gas and be safer, stop weaving in and out of traffic lanes especially on parkways and highways. Don’t rev up the engine to reach the maximum speed quickly and save a staggering 33% on gasoline efficiency. By keeping your speed at 60 on highways you will improve your MPG by about 23%. Add the last 2 percentages above and save an astonishing 56%. Clean out your trunk lessen your load additionally and save about 2% on MPG.”

106 St Tire & Wheel has been in business for decades and currently has 4 locations with another on the way with it's 106-01 Northern Blvd store open 24/7 including holidays. Reach that store at 718-446-6769 (press option one) and the administrative office by calling 718-271-9600.
