Since Tuff Gong records unearthed Kevin Davy a.ka. Yvad in 1996 with the breakthrough debut album entitled, Young, Gifted and Dread, this gifted singer-songwriter hailing from Jamaica has become a major talent with his complimentary roll as one of the lead singers for legendary reggae act, The Wailers. Replacing Bob Marley isn’t easy; however Yvad’s conscious approach to singing the timeless, classic songs has brought a freshness and vitality to an already celebrated Wailers line-up.

Born in Kingston, Yvad grew up in Spalding, on the border of Clarendon and Mandeville. He sang and played guitar with the local church choir before forming a band with friends in Montego Bay, where he learnt stagecraft, and developed his growing gift as a songwriter. Since Yvad was inspired by musicians like Bob Marley and The Wailers, he impressed Marley’s sons Ziggy and Stephen with his singing approach - which deals with universal themes such as love, peace, and reality - leading Yvad to his record deal with Tuff Gong.

Today, Yvad is taking a short break from touring and is focusing on recording original material for an upcoming 2010 solo album. On Wednesday, December 16, 2009, Yvad has scheduled an intimate showcase of his new material at Tillman’s Lounge in NYC. The Jamaican song-bird will be performing with his trademark acoustic guitar, backed by legendary reggae percussionist, Larry McDonald (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Lee “Scratch” Perry) and fellow guitarist, Greg Green.
