James Wyatt Hendricks will exhibit his latest artwork at Bismarck Studios on October 13th.
As Steve Bennett wrote in an article about James Hendricks’s, that he combines in his work, “the love of history, mythology, industrial technology and handmade craftsmanship with a visual vocabulary full of motion and movement". Hendricks’s work intertwines the technology of the present with the imagery of the past.
James Wyatt Hendricks is an artist and metal specialist with twenty-eight years of experience in his craft. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Kansas in 1991 and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Video in Kansas City Art Institute in 1993. Also, he has worked as a graphic designer for the San Antonio Express-News.
James Hendricks is known for his public sculpture. Working with the Denver Heights and Dignowity Hill neighborhood associations last year, he created a series of six benches celebrating the history of the East Side, which have been placed along Commerce Street, from St. Paul Square to the Friedrich Building in San Antonio, TX. Along with the benches, he created 40 tree grates, which have leaf designs carved in metal. From top to bottom, the pictured benches relate the history of the San Antonio Register newspaper, Magotts grocery and the Asian influence in the city.
Last year, his "Urban Tower" Series were part of Luminaria, San Antonio's annual celebration of art, which inspiration was oil refinery architecture and Joseph Campbell's "The Power Of Myth". James Hendricks says: "My intention through my art is to create a balancing act which mirrors the perfection in nature and Humans and I strive for that ideal in every piece I create. I bridge together echoes of the past. which all man-kind holds in his subconscious, and fuse this with what we know about the industrial world we live."
Come join us for his art show opening and reception to see his newest pieces, meet artist James Hendricks and learn about his work.
