Japanese filmmaker nominated for Emmy and Imagen Awards
Izumi Tanaka, an independent documentary maker from Japan based in Los Angeles, was nominated for Imagen Award's "Best Feature Documentary" for her film, "Pushin' Forward. The James Lilly Story"

Tanaka's documentary, "Pushin' Forward" portrays a former Latino gang member from Chicago, James Lilly, who was paralyzed at the age of fifteen. This intimate film follows his struggle and triumphs as he pursues his boyhood dream of becoming an athlete. Imagen Awards, which honor Latino Film, TV and Theater, nominated "Pushin' Forward" for the best feature documentary category. The awards will be announced at the award ceremony on August 21, 2009, Friday held at Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Tanaka was also one of the nine nominees for News and Documentary Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Research" for a documentary film, "Nanking" , for which Tanaka worked as associate producer. Emmy Awards will be announced on September 21, 2009, Monday in New York.
