Japans oil product exports recover to year-ago levels after quake

(Free-Press-Release.com) May 29, 2011 -- Japans oil product exports have recovered to near year-ago levels,magnesium powder , with most refineries resuming operations after the earthquake and as the peak kerosene demand in the country ended, industry sources said Friday.

Japan exported a total 2.49 million barrels of oil products for the week of May 8-14, latest data from the Petroleum Association of Japan showed. While for the week of May 9-15, 2010, the volume was similar at 2.69 million barrels, Platts data showed.

Export of oil products had to be suspended after a massive earthquake hit the countrys northeast on March 11, forcing six refineries to shut down. To meet local demand, refineries which were operational hiked their run rates and fixed emergency import deals for oil products.

The six refineries which had to shut down were: JX Nippon Oil & Energys Sendai, Kashima and Negishi refineries, Cosmo Oils Chiba refinery, TonenGenerals Kawasaki refinery and Kyokuto Petroleum Industries Chiba refinery. Suspended capacity amounted to 1.398 million b/d.

Though demand for gasoline peaks in summer, we will not import gasoline because domestic refineries can produce enough, said a Japanese refining source.

Also,manganese powder , the peak demand season for kerosene -- over December-February and from the northern regions in March -- has ended and there was no need to import jet/kerosene or gasoil to meet local demand, he added.

Japan is a net exporter of gasoline, jet fuel,Manganese Powder Manufacturers , gasoil and high sulfur fuel oil.
