The real life Jawz hits the stage with El DeBarge to perform songs from his R&B and hip hop fused tribute album on Thursday night in Hollywood, California.
Hip hop prodigy “Jawz of Life” opens for the legendary El DeBarge at the Key Club on March 1, 2012, at 9 p.m. Jawz will perform songs from his new mix tape titled “Big Luther.” Inspired from his childhood, he says, “Luther Vandross played such an important role in music history, and as a child, I remember his songs playing a major role in my appreciation of R&B.”
Listen to songs from the album on his website, www.jawzoflife.com. He explains, “The tracks are mainly about love and relationship issues. Although some of the songs seem personal, I tried to come from a point where anyone could put themselves in my shoes and relate to what the song is saying.”
“Big Luther” is the second of two tribute EPs he has done thus far. The first one was for Michael Jackson, which was titled “Mike & Life.” He released his debut solo album, "First Breath," in 2001. Since then, he has released albums with the hip hop groups Passport; The 5ive; and the Dungeon Family 2nd Generation.
Lyrically gifted with a sound that many compare to Andre 3000, Jawz doesn’t use profanity in his music, which is rare among emcees today. This is a fact in which he is proud. He says, “I personally love when parents tell me, ‘My child loves your music and has learned your songs.’ That’s one of the best feelings in the world. Besides, how could I go by the name Jawz of Life if I didn’t attempt to keep the music positive and clean, right?”
The Southern-bred rapper who now lives in Los Angeles also performed on the same stage as R&B vet Jon B on Valentine’s Day 2012. As well as a solo career, Jawz is a member of The 5IVE, a hip hop collective from his hometown, Atlanta, GA. He is working on an upcoming solo album while collaborating with super producers, including Team MFN.
To see Jawz perform live, tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 at jawzoflife.com. Otherwise, tickets are $35 at the door. The Key Club is located at 9039 West Sunset Boulevard West Hollywood, CA 90069-1828. For interviews or information, contact Annette Johnson at info@jawzoflife.com
