Jeff Owen invited to bid on commission of G20 Summit sculptures

(Free-Press-Release.com) October 7, 2009 -- Jeff Owen Artworks announces that metal sculptor Jeff Owen was invited to submit sculptures to the State Department of the United States for the 2009 G20 Summit. Jeff Owen created four sculptures especially for the G20 Summit. These sculptures along with other sculptor’s work, were taken to the White House for the final selection to be gifted to the 35 world leaders attending the 2009 G20 Summit at Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

This year’s G20 Summit theme of “renewal” and Pittsburgh’s theme of Three Rivers inspired Mr. Owen’s submitted sculptures. The first piece requested for submission was a work based on his piece “River”. Two additional rivers were added to make the piece Three Rivers, and the sculpture was created to be a wall hanging of 4 foot by 2 foot. The second piece was based on his very popular “Bend” sculpture. The third and fourth pieces were smaller versions of Three Rivers and the Bend-style sculpture. Jeff Owen added a twist of a third loop to bring the three rivers theme into the Bend piece.

Mr. Owen is extremely proud and honored to have been asked to be a part of this very special event. His sculptures were among the many pieces, submitted by sculptors throughout the United States, but, regrettably, his sculpture was not chosen as “the piece” for the dignitaries.

Jeff Owen is known for his unique abstract steel sculptures using found metal. His abstract sculptures have won awards in local, state, and national competitions. His sculptures are displayed in corporate and individual fine art collections nationwide and internationally. Jeff Owen, a native Californian, began his art career as an abstract painter and later discovered the joys of metal sculpting. He incorporates his early experiences with abstract painting and his joy of life into his metal sculptures, creating a sculpture that evokes strong emotions while remaining in balance. He describes his art as the past combined into the present, mingling of age, time, and space into congruent single form, the many into one. His technique is brute force, decide-at-the-moment where his creative process emerges with patterns that he incorporates into all of my sculptures. He creates art that is completely unique, something no one has done before. He resists conformity and mass production to create art as individual as he is.
