Seek.com.au Alternative Funded By GFC Stimulus Package
JobCrunch grows out of redundancy concerns
JobCrunch is a website designed to encourage community connection, support and education to people feeling the current economic pinch (www.jobcrunch.com.au).
A group of three work colleagues pooled their GFC stimulus money from the Federal Government, and developed the Australian-owned, community-centric website.
Jamie Andrei, Matthew Ho and Vincent Zhou reacted to the flood of redundancy headline media stories and decided to create an Australian-based solution to the economic job crisis.
"It's all about connection, community and sharing in these tough economic times" company director Jamie Andrei said.
The Sydney-based entrepreneurs saw JobCrunch as an opportunity to invest their Federal Government stimulus money in a worthwhile community-based project, rather than squandering it on an LCD TV.
JobCrunch differentiates itself from other career and paid job listing sites, such as seek.com.au, through its social focus on sharing knowledge, news and encouraging a sense of community connection.
"The internet is a great way to help combat isolation and an overwhelming sense of helplessness; that is our niche." Mr Ho said.
The idea of community based career sites is proving to be very popular as information on this type of job-networking can be hard to find. The American site www.unemployed-friends.com which featured in the Huffington Post recently is receiving around 5,000 unique visitors per day.
JobCrunch's three pillars are news, support, and community. The site's current core feature set includes aggregated industry news feeds from around the web, an easy to browse career knowledge centre and forums designed to encourage community sharing and connection.
The boot strapped website will continue to undergo enhancements and improvements over time to keep the service offering relevant to today's job market, with the addition of videos, job board, industry expert interviews and a mobile version.
"The site development has been a real labour of love, my 16 year old nephew designed the logo," Mr Andrei said.
"The site is designed to appeal to the more than 1 million of Australians who are actively seeking career opportunities. You may even connect with like minded people through our forums and spark the next big thing." Mr Zhou said.
"The company directors are looking to encourage the support of the Australian online community to participate in JobCrunch by spreading the word, signing up for a free membership or by contributing content.
