John Brown Asia Enters the Indian Retrofits, EPC and Turnkey Contracting Market With a Bang

And the effects of John Brown's entry into this particular market are already starting to be felt: with John Brown Asia already attracting the attention of major actors in India's industrial establishment.

Of course, the entry into the Indian retrofits, EPC and turnkey contracting is not John Brown's first foray into the Asian Market. It already has a presence in the Middle East – on account of which the Asian arm of John Brown (John Brown Asia) was established. And that, of course, is on top of John Brown's major presence in Europe and Australasia.

The retrofits and skids made and sold by John Brown Asia are likely to prove particularly useful to industrialists keen on upgrading the capabilities of their existing equipment. The idea is ultimately to not only improve the reliability of the equipment, but also to increase its lifespan. The latter (increase of equipment life) is likely to be a particularly attractive proposition for owners of older equipment, who may be at a point where they are considering retiring it altogether on account of loss of utility. John Brown, through its retrofits, proposes to prevent such premature retirement of industrial equipment.

The retrofits arm of John Brown Asia has six units. The first of those is the design unit – which offers design services for people keen on using retrofits on their equipment for upgrade purposes. There is also the turbine control unit, which largely sells turbine control systems. Third is the generator control and protection unit. Fourth is the 'balance of plant' unit, fifth being the motor control center unit and finally, with the sixth being the fabrication unit. All these work together to help clients improve the reliability of their industrial equipment (including ageing equipment), whilst also helping the clients increase the lifespan periods for all types of industrial equipment.

The EPC and turnkey contracting arm of John Brown Asia, on the other hand, has three units. One unit concerns itself with engineering activities. The second unit concerns itself with industrial procurement activities (on behalf of clients), even as the third unit concerns itself with construction activities.

The 'engineering activities' unit in John Brown Asia's EPS and turnkey contracting arm helps clients with things like basic conceptual design, which is typically followed by much more detailed design of things like turbines, condensers, transformers, generator systems and so much more. The 'construction activities' unit of John Brown Asia's EPS and Turnkey contracting arm helps clients with things like soil analysis, development (and follow up for approval) of civil drawings, construction supervision and all other practical activities pertaining to construction.
