John Westra Presented 2010 Distinguished Citizen Planner Award from Michigan State University Land Policy Institute

(Free-Press-Release.com) June 18, 2010 -- John Westra, an active local community leader and Trustee of Ada Township, was presented with the 2010 Distinguished Citizen Planner Award from the Michigan Citizen Planner program, which is part of Michigan State University's Land Policy Institute.

"This award acknowledges John's exemplary volunteer effort and for leadership and involvement within Ada Township, by championing increased public involvement through the Ada Village Design Charrette and innovative communication techniques."

John has served the people of Ada as a Trustee, since 2004. During that time he has committed himself to becoming educated on, sharing and advocating the latest techniques and Best Practices for enhancing local planning and governance. These are some of the qualities that earned him no less than five Citizen nominations for this most recent award. John is certified as a Master Citizen, Charrette Planner and will soon graduate from the Township Governance Academy, sponsored by the Michigan Townships Association.

In addition to being the catalyst behind the Ada Township's Village Design Charrette, John's Master Citizen Planner Capstone Project, an interactive web-based Community Discussion Forum, is now part of the Ada Township MI web site. Citizens, Stakeholders and Township representatives can use this forum 24/7/365, to discuss issues like Planning, Zoning, Parks, Township Governance and other Township-related topics.
