Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band will be among the headliners as Bank of America and Comcast present the Appel Farm Arts & Music Festival on Saturday, June 4, 2011. They will be joined by Gogol Bordello (acoustic), Ani DiFranco, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Good Old War, Red Horse (featuring Festival favorites John Gorka, Lucy Kaplansky & Eliza Gilkyson), Nicole Atkins & The Black Sea, David Wax Museum, John Francis, Avi Wisnia, RUNA and performance poet, Napalm Da Bomb.

In just over a decade, Josh Ritter has released six studio albums and graduated from open mic nights in the Boston area to headlining his own tours throughout the United States, as well as Ireland, the United Kingdom and Europe. His live performances are the bedrock of his career and no two Josh Ritter shows are the same. He infects his audience with the joy he experiences from being on stage as he involves them in the moment. Ritter has drawn comparison to legendary figures such as Bob Dylan, John Prine and Bruce Springsteen, not just for his music but also for the sense of community shared by his loyal fans. He tends to this relationship through personal contact with his audience following his shows and through his regular blog postings, offering insight into his life as a performer and a creative soul.

“We are very excited that Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band will headline the Grove Stage,” says Sean Timmons, Artistic Director of Appel Farm. “Loyal fans will know what to expect from this artist who is considered one of the most significant songwriters of his generation. Appel Farm Festival attendees will place Ritter among past favorites such as Richard Thompson, John Prine, Martin Sexton, Jackson Browne and others who stand out among the event’s rich history of performers.”
