Kansas City used car dealer offers cars with apps

The apps will allow the vehicles to communicate with their owner’s mobile devices. General Motors’ has developed a mobile app for OnStar. Kansas City used car dealer, McCarthy Chevrolet, will be offering cars with this app in the near future.

General Motors’ OnStar Mobile App will work with iPhone, Android and Blackberry and is planned for use in most of their 2011line-up of vehicles. By utilizing the app, the Smartphone will be able to run main vehicle utilities and provide functions of OnStar. Vice president of General Motors Marketing, Joel Ewanick, says that the apps will provide services tailored to the needs and desires of their customers.
The app will allow the Smartphone to do many tasks including turning a car on, starting the climate control, turning on the light/horn alarm, opening and locking the car doors, checking the fuel level, checking the remaining oil life, and checking the tire pressure levels. For the Volt, this app will also allow users to gather information about the cars battery level and will be capable of being set to send alerts to the owner such as reminders to charge the battery when needed. The owner does not need to be near their car to perform any of these tasks.
