Katahdin Studio Furniture Reintroduces Its Signature Music Stand Cabinet

October 23, 2010

Recently, Katahdin’s James Roy and Isaiah Cooper were challenged by company founder John Stass to revitalize the signature Papillon Duet Music Stand from both an esthetic and functional perspective.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 23, 2010 -- In 1999, John Stass of Katahdin Studio Furniture designed and built the first Papillon Music Stand Cabinet. The Papillon was truly an original design to serve duets. It was not only a music stand, but also a compact sheet music cabinet. The cabinet’s two music drawers were arranged so players on either side of the cabinet had access to a dedicated drawer. The Papillon was not only practical, but it also made an artistic statement.

Stylistically, no other piece in the Katahdin Studio Music Furniture Collection has drawn more notice. The Papillon has been commissioned to support the finest of music rooms, while others have been positioned in grand foyers and other focal points to create dramatic interior designscapes.

Recently, Katahdin’s James Roy and Isaiah Cooper were challenged by Stass to revitalize the Papillon from both an esthetic and functional perspective. The resultant modifications all meet Katahdin Studio Furniture’s usual standards for excellence.

Functionally, the adjustment mechanism has been greatly improved for the dual grand piano style music stand pallets. The adjustable angel of the Papillon’s dual pallets are now secured with nautical-like thumbscrew arms at each side of the cabinet. This design refinement makes adjusting the pallet angle more convenient, and offers a much wider range of adjustment between player and music stand.

The sheet music drawers were deepened by 25%, providing significantly increased storage space for music.

Following function, the form of the Papillon has been fine-tuned with fluted flared legs, like those on Katahdin’s flagship music cabinet, the Islesboro. The more generously proportioned music drawers also lower the visual center of gravity, giving a more stable look to the graceful profile of this innovative piece.
