Bay City’s History

Bay City was established in 1894 by a Colorado mining millionaire, David Swickheimer. It was formed in partnership with N. M. Vogelsang, G. M. Magill and Nicholas King. The community was named Bay City because of its location on the Bay Prairie. Before construction began, Bay City was a tent city. The Cane Belt Railroad reached the city in 1901.
