FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 21, 2011 --
Soon, some taxpayers will start to receive letters or notices from the IRS about some kind of overpayment that has affected their return. There are so many different kinds of notices to receive for an IRS overpayment. There are various official notices depending on what part of your return was corrected, but the most common are the CP12, CP12A , CP12E, CP12M, CP12R, CP24, and CP24E.
The notice your receive will be determined by what kind of return your filed along with the type of correction that was made. Each one with explain, in detail, how the overpayment was. Ultimately, the IRS has made some change or corrected some error that was on your tax return. The most common errors/changes that would result in an overpayment are usually from an error in mathematics, a correction in credits, correction in filing status, changes to your Earned Income Credit (EIC), corrections to your 940 or 941 payroll taxes, or just a question as to what you would like to do with the available credit on your account.
The notices you might receive are just sent out to clarify what kind of correction was made, let you know so that you can either agree or disagree, and explain to you how/where the additional money is going. In most cases, your notice will let you know that the corrections were made and that you can expect your overpayment to be sent out in the form of a check or that the credit will be applied to next year’s taxes.
Not every notice or letter the IRS sends out, is a bad one. Just make sure you handle your notice appropriately. If you are in need of any additional information you can visit our website or call us directly. (713)774-4467.
